Revivals.
Nowadays, the Filipino music scene’s been powered by local bands (and not to mention, those pop singers). They have their vocalists, their own style of expressing their lyrics, strumming guitars and the chords, implementing various genres to every piece of their songs: it became an addiction that influenced the youth of today. Nothing’s wrong with rock; except if you consider Cueshe and Shamrock a ‘rock’ band: then there’s something wrong. Wait, don’t tell me – Join The Club is a band!!
To commemorate those long-forgotten bands, the bands of today made revivals. But instead of reliving the natural essence of the song, the trying-hard bands end up destroying the song. A massacre.
6Cycle Mind’s Prinsesa, for me, is a total waste.
Well, I have no comment about those APO songs since I’ve never loved their songs.
The E-heads revivals? Baaad. Not only did it gave fuel to the fire with the issues regarding Ely Buendia and the good old bandmates, but it’s a total catastrophe to hear a song murdered. MYMP’s ‘Huwag Mo Nang Itanong’ is somewhat a two thumbs up for me (though I still hate the drama-ish effect). But Barbie’s revival? Tss. That girl’s totally busted.
Before doing revivals, are they asking the permission of the so-called ‘owners’ of the songs? And after they made their own rendition, are they asking the original maker with regards to the execution of the song? They must. I wonder what would ‘The Teeth’ say to 6Cycle Mind with their ‘Prinsesa’.
It happened to one of Rivermaya’s song that I really loved. 214 ba yun? It was revived by someone.. I can remember his face but not his name.. tsk
I loved the APO Remakes. My favorites are Imago’s version of Ewan and Parokya’s version of Pumapatak ang Ulan.. ayus un.
I have not listened to the 6cycle mind version of Prinsesa. hmm.. pasend nga or upload mo kung san, i wanna hear! haha!

I DON’T like barbie’s songs… lalo na yung di na barbie’s cradle, ok pa yung mga kanta nila eh pero nung solo na siya, nakakainis na un boses. Yan lang sa utak ko, ewan ko sa ibang tao.

in music industry, when they make a revival , they pay the royalties from the originals. they just can’t get the song that easily or else they will be sued with plagiarism.
there are revivals are undeniably good, but not as great as the originals. Just like Francis M. “Superproxy 2k5″ and Imago’s “Spoliarium” are good revisions but some, I don’t mind. but some remakes end up as a catastrophe, and they are too many, this doesn’t apply just in rock bands, with balladeers as well.
i guess composers are losing they creative juices now because music producers aim now more on those unintellectual “masa” appeal.
i hate revivals.. lalo na yung mga kalokohang pagpatay sa mga makasaysayang kanta ng e-heads.. nakakabwisit. i still love the original songs.
Nako Kevin hinay-hinay lang…alam mo kasi sa revival, mapapansin mo talaga ung pagkakaiba nila, may chance na baka ung nirevive pa ung maganda o kaya naman ung mismong original song hehe.

Ung kanta talaga ng Eraserheads ang gusto ko, i don’t like the revive versions.

add also kitchie nadal’s rendition of an apo classic “pag-ibig”. Kitchie is, well, a better commercial model than a singer.
- A new Prinsesa? I don’t know how they can revive it any other way.
- I also can’t appreciate APO songs that much. I know they’re good, but being a generation before me, they do not have that emotional appeal to me.
- I think it was still Rivermaya (with a new vocalist) that remixed 214. Matino pa nga yang revival na yan, yun kayang Kisapmata remix naging video game sound effects, WTF haha.
- Now E-heads, ito ang may emotional appeal sa akin. So talagang the original songs are superior for me. Although I like how Alkohol is seamlessly adopted to Radioactive Sago style. Ang di ko lang alam ay kung bakit babae ang pinakanta nila ng Torpedo.
- Gusto ko kaya yung Tabing Ilog ng Barbie’s Cradle, it captured the idyllic provincial feel so well that it makes this probinsyano boy sigh.
- Halata ba, I really should blog about music. Matagal ko nang pinaplano di ko pa rin masulat, dami ko kasing gustong sabihin.
When I hear someone reviving a song, I always think they are clueless if their career is going to prosper at least a milimeter if they fail to make originals.
But it’s different that when I hear a better version, I don’t think there’s something wrong with it. I guess they are just making these songs more fitted to the status quo.

i as a great fan of the teeth i wish that 6 cycle mind must hang for what they did. Prinsesa 6 cycle version sucks i hate the video puro mga posser tae ang kinalabasan nagagago ata mga bandan 6 cycle mind di ba latak na lang ang bandang eto…..tae sigh….
I can’t even think about current exchange rates, they make my head hurt almost as much as my purse.
