The Question.
Opportunies arise once the cameraman signals. The searing lights of stardom, of fame, of being aired in the television. No matter how much efforts it will take you, you’d still go that way. Money is the prime reason for your visit, fame could be your second. Third would be your greetings, and finally, there goes the experience you wanted to taste from some noontime show.
I’ve watched you yesterday at a classmate’s house. I’ve seen how you exaggerated your moves, your dance, plus with the nonsense lyrics. You wanted to be praised, to be ridiculed, but you don’t care.
This would be an opinion of an average citizen, a citizen concerned.
Enlighten me. Expound the arrays of reason behind Wowowee. There are certain things I cannot understand. One, why people go to that show and dance as if there’s no one watching? Two, is it because the present economy of our country stimulated them to join a noontime show rather than choosing alternatives for a better life? Three, have they reached their limits, and told themselves that their lives were miserable enough to have options? Four, am I saying this because somehow, I still have money to use?
Maybe. I think the third question is correct.
But well, not all contestants were there for money. They want to enjoy life by singing Boom Tarat Tarat, and dance. There are others who dance for Willie to recognize them. Fun is there. Entertainment is there. And that’s all that matters. That show serves to entertain them and us, viewers. So why am I meddling with their affairs?
No, I have nothing against the show. You may hate this post, or hate me for this post. But before you hate me, let me feel your reasons. Explain, in the comment section. Thanks a lot.
And oh, I’m feeling normal with the song. Neutral. Not good, though not bad at all. But I’m still deciphering the meaning of the lyrics.

AMP.
2 and 3 could be the reason.
If those people choosed to be “living life” the way they want really want it… they wouldve gone and sought out alternatives.
Ang dami pang paraan para kumita. Pero choice na din yan ng tao. Some people are contented with the way things are…. kaya ganyan. Others.. are not.. so they strive for more.
But as long as they feel happy when they are over at Wowowee.
I dont know about the meaning of the song too.
oops really want it* lng. nyahaha.
nice tina.
tama nga naman. nasa choice ng tao kung sasali sila sa game show na yun or hinde. thanks for the explanation!
nice comment mikmik!
to naman..
i think mikmik’s right. haha! they want to earn money the easy way. and i also think some people who join there have needs or problems, (some have sick relatives, no money for babies, etc.) the only way they could solve their problems is to earn A LOT of money. but they want it the easy/fast way.
do you get me? cause i dont. hahaha
they say na ganun na daw kasi kahirap ang pinas.. and the only choice left is to join that show.. kasi umiyak ka lng.. or something like magpanggap, makakakuha ka ng pera. ewan ko..
Happy Sunday!!
They use people’s desperations to exert entertainment.
Filipinos are naturally escapists. Take it from 333 years of so-claimed colonial years plus the Americans.
That’s how Wowowee is very effective.
shally, i get your point!
siguro nga they are desperately in need of money, kaya yun ang nangyayari sa kanila. kaso, parang ang gara ng choice nila – sumayaw sa TV at papanoorin ng mga tao worldwide!
ikay, and arnel’s comments are somehow connected to each other. wala na kasing CHOICE yung mga tao. at siguro gusto lang nilang gawin yun para malibang.
neil, yours is different.
sad.
lolz.. itsokay, i hate wowowee too. it’s incredibly annoying…
ah basta.. boomt tarat tarat! boom tarat tarat! tararat tararat! BOOM BOOM BOOM! =P
okay, anjouli. good luck with your dancing career. hehehe. aryan – not that i hate wowowee, but i am annoyed with it.
i definitely hate that song!!!
i also dont like wowowee or any gameshows and even Lotto, they keep on explaining on TV that they are giving hopes for those gazillions of poor Filipinos, which they really dont. they are just telling us that money can be achieved easily by those stupid contests and gamblings, which is one in a million in probability. they are just teaching us to sit down and wait for the money to come to us, which in real, is really hard to earn. they are just saying that we Filipinos should be LAZY, that’s it.
I hope they can convey the message that earning cold cash is not that easy. if we want to be rich and successful, we should keep our feet moving to achieve that… i should also remind those things to me!
I try not to watch noontime shows. Its maybe out of desperation that people join the show. The unusual luck that they may be given a chance to start a better life. But i can’t take away the fact that people find the show really funny and enjoyable (Balikbayans are some of those people). Maybe its because the people who join feel comfortable enough that its ok that they look silly.
Now let me ask you a question, is it just wowowee that annoys you or in general noontime shows like eat bulaga?
ahmm. i don’t think i am annoyed with eat bulaga. kasi una sa lahat, i could benefit from eat bulaga like trivias…
pero yung sa wowowee, it’s plain.. dancing and cheering and.. ayun. ewan ko ba!!!
and billycoy, tama ka riyan. pinapaasa lang nila tayo.
ow. so a lot of them have already said what is needed to be said.
but i have a few trivia for you guys. i got these information from someone i know who joined wowowee once. this is, according to her, not me. although, nonsense as it may seem, i still think that wowowee is full of crap.
*they don’t give the whole amount of money to the winner.
*those people who gives ‘dollars’ to the contestants are courtesy of the show. the show gives money to these people and would ask them to give it to the contestants so that it may seem like those persons are ‘balikbayan’s’.
that’s all. though not relatively informative and nonsense, all of these are according to somebody who joined. oh, well.
Yung album ng Itchyworms na “Noontime Show” ay tungkol sa mga pros and cons ng mga shows sa tv. Haha.
Money attracts people especially those who are in need of it. Big prizes and all, who wouldn’t want them and take their chances with it? I guess, because of other people’s status in life, they’re placed in a situation to try their luck with game shows and such just to see if it could pull them out of their agony. Like what I’ve read in one of the comments for this post, “instant” siya.
On another point-of-view…Hey! Filipinos liked to be seen on TV. And Wowowee’s like shown all over the world. Maybe fifteen minutes of fame won’t hurt.
wow, you’ve read my mind. i was about to make a post about that annoying song. luckily, i viewed your blog. you pretty much said everything i want to say. i guess great minds think alike. haha. peace man.
james, i’ll call you reido. yup, great minds think alike.
yna, so there are other factors for me to be annoyed with the show huh.
XD
anong say ho?
Nakakaadik nga daw ang Wowowee. Ewan ko lang ha.
People have different reasons for watching Wowowee. As your post suggests; desperation to win instant money, to have their 10 seconds of fame, to be entertained or simply to have FUN. As for the song Boom Tarat Tarat, at first I hated the song but now I think i have learned to like it. Maybe it has some kind of subliminal message that makes people addicted to the song.
may pandaraya rin ang wowowee(not wowoee but si willie), coz some balikbayans in the show were there to enjoy and experienced 15 seconds fame but been disregarded by willie in favor of the local pinoys….some of them were there coz of tfc availability in US but unfortunately treated different way. wowowee for sure will be there for a while but not long as Eat bulaga at noontime show
Wow.
Re: question # 4
you just answered your question….
in the same fashion as why the filipino people vote for celebrities for government positions…
Maybe brought about by the disillusionment and hopelessness of the country’s political and economical situation, they turn to something or someone who somehow makes them feel they or he understands the plight they are in. Wowowee gives these people this tiny gleam of hope that they can rise from their situation (i.e. instant money) plus the fact that it’s not dirty money… If Willie runs for a government position, I bet he’d get alot of votes for the image he projected in wowowee… Somehow, that show made a “Saint” out of him…
Neutral ako pagdating sa wowowee… my 4 month old niece likes boom tarat tarat…
Well, dwea… I am shocked na may nag-cocomment pa sa old posts ko! Thanks. :p Anyway.
Children really love boom tarat-tarat. I have nothing against… their likes. :p
Wow, mag-newnew year na. :p
