The News: Hot and Sizzling

I thought the freezing water I used for taking a bath would be normal for a November morning. It’s cold ice.

Blame me for my illiteracy towards our television. I haven’t known earlier that Bulacan is experiencing Signal #2, ergo, Elementary and High School would have no classes for today. All the while, I thought it is a class day – the last day of our Third Grading Unit Test. Thanks for my textmates who sent me messages from our adviser confirming the news. Still not contented with the text message, I decided to turn on the TV and be informed.

It was yesterday when I watched National Geographic Channel, and it tackled about a supertyphoon that would hit the island-city of Hong Kong. It features their security measures, the predicted effects of the unusual phenomenon, and a lot more. Today, I am about to experience it.

Typhoon Reming expects to have its landfall this morning at Virac, Catanduanes. Alert signals were given to provinces, and safety measures were checked by every family. Ports closed, flights cancelled, travelling would be dangerous, water shortages and minor blackouts (crossing my fingers) were evident. This is the second time we’ll experience a massive typhoon, prior to Milenyo: which uprooted trees, destroyed few billboards, and left Philippines with 230 dead last September. With winds of 195 kilometers per hour, it’s far destructive from Milenyo. Metro Manila, along with the neighboring provinces, prepared for the worst-case scenarios.

News from the Senate and the Congress, or other political places and issues, were disregarded from this post. I myself don’t know what’s happening ‘in’ there. Two guys fell down from a deep well, and then I’ve seen Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s face. And oh, Bono of U2 received a gift from Japan’s Prime Minister. Shades! I don’t know why, but it’s all up to them.

So I changed my clothes.

Less death tolls? Hope so. For now, I’ll enjoy the boredom of my four-day weekend. (Happy 16th birthday to my bestfriend!)

  1. ako ba ang una?? i can’t believe it.. hahaha.. ok sana ang 4 day vacation.. kami din dito walang pasok.. kaya lang .. kung ang 4 day vacation means disaster ulit.. wag na lang. mas gugustuhin ko pa pumasok.. nakakatakot talaga.. baka kasi kung ano nanaman idulot ng typhoon na ito…

  2. ow, happy birhtday to your friend!

anyway, i hope reming’s damage would not be like that of milenyo’s, although this one’s much stronger.

so, you watch the news recently, huh? i don’t watch the news cause i really don’t want to be bombarded with gloomy news every now and then. argh.

  4. Too bad for a country that is already ailing. Too many typhoons in a year is just horrible. THat’s the price of being in the tropics hahaha. But whatever calamities our country is experiencing, we, Filipinos, are always holding on and never ever giving up. There is always a fighter in us. Yo!

    Salamat sa pagbati!

By the way, you were already popular even before I promoted you,
    weren’t you? :-)

Keep the Filipino blogging community alive!

  5. Thanks, Talksmart! Di naman ako sikat nun noh. Hihihi.

Kaasar. Baka ‘fashion statement’ lang niya yun.

    Yes, Yna.

But I seldom watch news. Nanonood lang ako kapag kailangang-kailangan ko. Tulad kanina.

  6. Cross your fingers, Potpot!

Hahaha. Minsanan pa naman ko yun ginagawa. Haha. As of now wala pang bagyo sa amin, pero nag-brownout na. :P

  8. Hello, Kuya-Kim-to-be, or is it Ernie Baron!? Hehe.

    Chill! :-)

  9. Kim Atienza?

Oh, no! I hate cockroaches and animals – though sanay na ko sa mga hayop sa bahay. Hahhahaa!

  10. two hours ago, after taking a nap, i decided to take a bath.

i am no longer fond of altering the temperature of the water by putting hot amount of it. when i was small, and when i need to wake up early for school, the water in the bathroom must not be cold enough to freeze the my very sanity. this afternoon, the water hit me with a blast. it was like ice. it was something like that one i had on a spa which features relaxation by the aid of icy water (what the heck!)–i miss that.

the supertyphoon is apparently coming. though people have already learned of it, it would surely come like a thief, just like what milenyo did. i hate the suspension of classes because i rather study on school than to be bored in from of this laptop for four days. so many things to do, so many projects to start with, so many ideas to think about.

i went home early yesterday. around 6 pm. my grandmother announced that there’d be no classes for this day as declared by the malacaƱang. at first, it took almost all of the hell out of me before i believe her. then, i watched the news to confirm the said-so. now, i’m here. stucked in this house. i am totally bored.

i have no more news about the two persons who fell down a deep well. i pray they’re not yet dead. unlike me. how i wish i’ll die later. being messed up, i opened my limewire and downloaded “gloomy sunday.”

this would be a gloomy thursday. tomorrow is a holiday. then saturday. sunday subsequently. disasters are in our doors. don’t let it knock on yours.

PROJECTS. nakakainis! haay.

  21. Waw. Newscaster. Never even thought of that ha.

Thanks sa daan. Hope you’d become a regular!

  22. four-day weekend for me means just more time to study. fun, noh? [note sarcasm]

anyway, bono PROBABLY got the shades because it’s his trademark. note that he’s hardly ever seen without them. [trivia: it's because of an eye condition. :) ]

  23. Or you mean, “ice-cold?”

heck i can’t even feel reming’s “prowess” which is a good thing actually.

  24. Yes, Rob. A good thing. Diba binaha kayo nung kay Milenyo? At least, ngayon – walang problema.

Donya, thanks for sharing things about Bono.
