Good News, and Wanting Some More.
Pacquiao hit Morales with an electrifying third-round knockout.
Once again, nationalistic fervor at its height.
I arrived at McDonalds and to my surprise, the crew installed a television, scanned the channels. The next thing I know, the customers were barely eating their lunch. Watching intently with every swoosh of Manny’s fists that served to be their meal for the meantime. It was in Mercury Drug when I knew that Manny won. The tellers, together with the guard and the janitor joyfully proclaimed that Pacman was victorious. There goes their pustahan.
With my unbiased opinion, I think that Pacquiao is worth the talking, but don’t you think people exaggerate upon his prowess in boxing and the glory he brings to Filipinos?
It’s good to hear that there still is a space allotted for good news. In a Catholic country bombarded with earsplitting information about rape victims, economic crises, political trashes, oil price hikes, and the buzz about actor-actress relationships – there’s no wonder that Pacquiao swept all of those toxins like a Loperamide tablet. It was a shock that Morales declared ceasefire during Pacman’s warm-up rounds. To swallow the popularity and the sum of money Pacquiao will receive once again, his face could be printed in a 2000 peso bill.
He could buy millions of IPods. He’s a billionaire who by then, is a construction worker. Imagine – he could be a tycoon and buy resorts in Davao or even own an island near Malapascua or Boracay itself. Or maybe establish a foundation to fund boxing as a sport here in the Philippines. Name it Pacquiao’s Fight Club, or something.
In my opinion, he’s transforming himself from a clean-living boxer to a prostitute. He was driven by his sport, by necessity, and now, by pride. A boxer-prostitute who would use his body, not to please the viewers but to let his muscles suffer a bit to gain wealth. Before, he wanted boxing because he’s in love with boxing. Nowadays, people think that his passion for the sport disappeared and self-centeredness became his priority.
Well, I couldn’t blame him. No matter what perspective would be applied, he is still Pacman. He belongs to those modern-day heroes like the OFWs, or Gabriela Silang if you must. Is this what we Filipinos got? A boxer? Yes, he uplifts the moral frustration of the many, but is that it? After three months or so, he would be forgotten as a boxer. He would soon be making commercials of Lactacyd or Ovaltine, appearing in every channel, or promoting his new movie.
Bottom line: I want good news. A relevant one that would last for ages and be written in history books.
PS: But really, I admire Pacquiao’s expertise in boxing. Congratulations.

wooohooo laban pacquiao!
A prostitute? Golly, he’s a spammer. A humble one, but still a spammer.
He serves us well. He’s not a prostitute. A prostitute entertains wholly a single morbid aphrodisiac. He’s a clown–hired to entertain, laughed at in entertainment, tipped after entertained, and recommended/promoted for more entertainment… for a massive audience.
But he’s still an ad spammer. So stop him. ^_^
Natawa ako sa Lactacyd.
Everybody is graving for a good news. -_-
I was not really amused how he won against Morales. Morales was not in condition to fight that time, losing more than 30 lbs in just 3 months? that’s merely impossible to box properly. It was a fair game but not a fair fight.
Yes he is not a sportsman now, he is an overexposed celebrity. though, we cant deny the fact that he is a great boxer. we just dont like how he is exposed in the local media.
Mr. Overexposed is trully overhyped. But you cant help the Filipino to keep backing up their personal idol.
profound. nice. a very nice insight. but then, let him live his life… how he wants it to be. afterall, all those riches are literally ‘hard-earned’. let him bask in his wealth…
he is a womanizer, a voracious gambler, a power-tripper who tags along armed bodyguards who beat those whom they think is more ugly and boxer-looking than their boss.
these alone are enough reason for me to detest and puke on the glorification that he is getting right now.
i have written about this before and still my passion against the wrong personification of hero apparently made out of his winning all those fights, burns.
this country and the Filipinos especially, are easily swayed and blinded by triumphs instead of waking up in truth–a clear manifestation of our being escapists.
and this government? nah…it just rides over the celebrity status of the man in its bid to sweep all its dirt under the rag.
nyahahahahaha….ganyan talaga…manny pacquiao eh.hehe…=D
ARR.
Anyway, if there’s one thing Pacman can’t advertise, that’s LACTACYD, and.. uhh, you don’t know how people’s minds work today.
Malay mo, makita mo nang nag aadvertise ng feminine wash si Pacquiao. WHOA.
Even though Morales is a proud man, I can’t help but pity him when he was knocked-out. Mayabang rin naman si Pacquaio e.
Yeah, and all this Pacquaio publicity is making me sick. Too much of the Filipino pride. It goes overboard na e.
i was walking along buendia when i overheard some yosi vendors talking about pacman before the “big” fight. one of them said “sana matalo si manny para mabawasan ang kayabangan nya”. there you go. i guess there are 2 sides in a coin. he is now a commercialized hero. but let’s face it. how many filipino boxers out there reached the top? winning is synonymous to fame. he is indeed a very lucky pinoy. me? honestly, i still can’t decide. but god knows how badly i want to wear those sluggish shoes. i must gather more courage. i bet you know what i mean. peace man.
lahat tayo gusto ng good news that “will last.” isipin mo na lang, this is now part of sports history. haha, plus, mabuti na yun. kaysa wala na ngang magandang balita, talo pa siya. that would have sucked big time.
I like Morales. After the fight, he congratulated Pacman and said nothing but good words about him. They noth agreed to the rules of the game, and someone has to loose. Such a man. Hear that Pinoy politicians.
Sa mga comment nyo, well, wala na tayong magagawa if ever ‘mayabang’ nga si pacquiao. Eh sa nanalo at sa may ipagmamayabang eh.
Sana lang pinatagal yung laban.
Indeed, Billycoy. A fair game but not a fair fight.
Pacquiao? Endorsing Lactacyd? Now I hafta see that one! Hahahahaha!
Oo naman @ Jhed. Nothing is impossible nowadays.
i dont think manny is mayabang, let’s remember manny is not a native talalog speaker neither even a good speaker of sort. he is a good fighter a smart one. one has to be smart and intelligent enough to acquire the kind of skills pacman possesses. i know it as a sportsman myself. manny only sounds mayabang because he is not good in choosing the words to say even in tagalog. i know ds as a cebuano myself some of my tagalog friends admitted misenterpreted me as masayabang but when they come to know me more, they say i am 1000 times good hearted than any people they know. i realized becauase i am not really i dont know why i cant express what i wanted to say sometimes in tagalog u knw what i mean guys?
regarding manny, i know some of his kayabangan expressions are fueled by people around him. regarding his wealth, well, we cannot blame him, sino bang tao in his right mind who does not want blessings? money! kahit sino naman, tsaka we cannot help blame him coz it was these companies who come to him. manny didnt ask for them they come to him in the first place. nowadays people would destroy relationship because of thousands pesos, but manny earned those manny legally so he didnt do anything wrong. lets blame the situation. manny grew up fatherless and unschooled and started to kayod during his early age just to survive.
plus the boxing atmosphere is far different from they the rest of the secular world, u knw wat i mean. so we cannot blame sometimes if he has not the kind of manner the way it should be. but at least an unschooled fatherless and poor young guy glorify our country once and excited millions of people around the globe.
i am not an avid boxing fan, but manny’s life has inspired me in a lot of ways. manny is picture of all filipino who struggle to win and GOD has given us potential to use like manny. we may be facing marital problems, emotional, financial, poverty, loneliness, whatever problems we are facing right now as filipino I BELIEVE WE CAN KNOCK THEM DOWN! manny did his part. lets do ours.
