The Battle of Download Engines.
Ever since my unregistered Limewire (according to international treaties, mine is illegal. My heartfelt thanks to democracy in the Philippines, I am not yet jailed) was installed in our computer, I stare at the progress bar for hours – waiting with patience to finish an MP3 download. Combined with the rate of my Internet Connection (Smart Wi-Fi), downloading is much worse.
The fact that Limewire is a virus-prone program (fortunately, I haven’t bumped any of those viruses) and its built-in search engine designed for Video, Audio, Programs, and the like – would be displaying more irrelevant or unknown files; there is no doubt about its inconveniency (though my Limewire is free and illegal). Whenever I am disconnected from the Internet server or the router, the download will stop and there goes the catastrophe of downloading it once again and so on.
Limewire is not just about downloading. It’s about being pestered.
On the burial of my uncle last July, my cousin (I could estimate that his age is 26 or something) and I conversed about Internet stuff and gadgets until he referred Torrent as a download engine. He was using it to download videos, and music albums. Back then, I’m still using our family-oriented computer so I don’t have the full privilege and authority to download or install games in that computer. As my brother-in-law says it: refrain from downloading any software since viruses might be there.
I then informed my brother-in-law to download the Torrent thing. As always, he would do things that would oppose my
wishes and told me that it could be a nest for worms, Trojan horses, and even mice. There goes his alibis.
It was about three in the morning when I woke up and had my Limewire session. An early morning download, as always, is blazing fast (or as Limewire says it, turbo-charged). I decided (with Benj’s friendly advice) not to subsist with Limewire and instead, download Torrent. Anyway, I have my personal laptop.
Torrent, in my personal opinion, is way better than Limewire. Downloading is more of a wholesale than retail. No disconnection, faster than Limewire and it can manage huge downloads (may it be MB or GB). Only that the software lacks design, but the substance is there.
Currently addicted to Saosin’s Finding Home, and Tool’s Lateralus.

I hate Limewire. Really. Even if it’s the program I use for downloading audio files. It really slows down my PC. Argh. And sometimes, even though there are lots of results for my searches, I;d wait for seconds or even minutes before it downloads and then ‘waiting on busy hosts’ will just appear. Haha
I am using limewire too..pero ala pa nmang virus na nka pasok..maybe..hehe.
Principessa Sita, we’re the same in terms of experience. Ganyan din ang nararanasan ko. Puro waiting on busy hosts!!! Grr.
I AM USING LIMEWARE PRO 4.12. Bwahahaahaha. Poor you.
Sue me if you want to. Kidding.
Both programs utilize peer-to-peer sharing. As long as someone is online, you can have your Ugly Betty episode downnload in no time. That is if there are people who’ll allow uploading.
SO far, I am not pestered with worms, malware, trojans, viruses using my electromagnifyingly amazing LIMEWIRE PRO 4.12 and Azureus. I have downloaded almost all my multi-gig softwares using both… a rather form of protest against Bill Gates monopolizing the software market and bombarding PC users with his self-mutating viruses in collaboration with Norton et al.
Oh, what the hell happened?
Same here. I’m not yet pestered by viruses though continuously boggled with crap mp3s whenever I search something.
:d
And I use McAfee. Ha-ha! Poor you!
back in the philippines, i used limewire ..
happy sunday!
take care
(haha ang bait ko rin no? XD) pero take care nga. haha. =)
P2P clients are eeevil. Go to Katz or any related, non-P2P, file sharing sites instead.
torrent. it’s my first time to hear *hmm, more of read.* about it. it’s better than limewire? that’s rad.
you should listen to the pink spiders. their songs are all hot.
torrent is better than limewire huh? i guess i gotta reserach on that thingy.
im likewise using limewire eversince i hated KAZAA. lol. im quite enjoying it. I just hate it when need more sources appears.
tala, i don’t trust file-sharing sites or non-p2p sites.
hehe. i’d go for torrent sa ngayon.
ano yung KAZAAAA?
wow. honestly, i love my “illegal” limewire. so far i haven’t encountered any virus yet. hahaha! Whats that torrent? i’ll try downloading it. hahaha
oh, and they’re uber right. kazaa sucks.
shally, trust me, torrent is great when it comes to mass-tort litigation. uhh, i mean, mass-downloading.
magdodownload ng food? billy? ayos ka laaaaang?
I haven’t tried torent yet.. imesh and limewire palang… i’d better stick to limewire since i am not allowed to download any programs.
i’ll be waiting for your comeback, glenda.
ano yung imesh -> eiss?
I used to have the pro. But I accidentally deleted it. One of my classmates knows how to make your unregistered limewire into a pro. ahihi.
Anyway, yes you are right. Torrent downloading is way better. Although I am still careful about where I get the source. I usually download movies/videos using torrent, and audio for limewire.
Take Care
mabagal nga lang, no, scratch that, mababang version lang pala meron ako dati kaya mabagal…
eiss, may ym ka ba or what?
chat tau. hehe.
yup, YM meron… eiss_kad29
ayan, very good eiss!
Torrrrrrent clients are only better in downloading large sized files. Limewire PRO (take note: PRO) is better in multimedia files.
Otherwise, use Google or Rapidshare.
Oh I forgot: I use Virus Chaser. And I’m pretty sure I am the only one who uses it. Haha. Poor you. ^_^
Rar, Neil!
PRO!! Hehe, and I am contented with my torrent.
ITS F**KIN LIMEWIRE ITS CR*P use a better program!!
Dudes n dudettes…use DC++ …it rocks….
