Connection.
It’s funny that people connect through unexpected events.
I could have seen your sister at MRT’s Buendia station. You could have seen me in the mall searching through bookshelves, finding the latest FHM Magazine or those magazines that had my interest. Or maybe while walking through the streets of your university, or worse – you could have seen me dating with a girl at Starbucks Katipunan. These events were all unexpected, all random. And so the list goes on. You could have met my eyes while I’m furiously walking away from my girlfriend. Your family’s textile business could have made this bedsheet I’m currently using. Connecting with people is such a pre-destined job by our fate.
C’mon, this isn’t a Nokia commercial where you would soon see their catchy motto: Connecting people.
It’s a mere twist of fate. Well, these connections were established not just by seeing each other. By unintentionally watching the movie you watched yesterday at the same moviehouse is a connection between you and me. Or maybe, we shared a space in the same jeepney one foggy Saturday night. You might have borrowed the book I borrowed before at the library (but honestly speaking, I don’t borrow books at the library) and have seen a strand of hair; you wonder.
Who owns this shit?
Yesterday’s a dinner at the Garage (if you have read my previous post, it is a local carinderia situated along the filthy eskinitas of Bocaue. Technically, it is named after its location – a house garage) and I could say that the food tastes great (I ordered their Sizzling Chicken Barbecue, by the way). At the middle of the conversation, one asked.
Kilala mo ba si Myla Mendoza?
Yup. The girl with braces. Of course, the industrious class treasurer who would always beg before her classmates just to pay the necessary fines: for being branded as ‘escaped’ in cleaning and those profit-gaining pranks. She was my classmate this year, and a classmate when I was in Second Year. This guy who asked about her is my friend, and apparently – there’s no way he’d know my classmate, except if he’s been doing some social services like the Census or something.
I asked him, paano mo nakilala si Myla Mendoza?
They were former clanmates. A clan, in a texter’s dictionary is a group of texters who would pester you by bombarding text messages even when your sleeping. My brother once joined a clan, the next thing I know – he changed his Sim card. Well, I never had the calling to join a clan. It’s also a melting pot of schools, of personalities, and of opinions – like the blogosphere.
Communication, nowadays were bought in a cheap price. One peso per text. Fifty pesos for five hours of Internet. Nonstop Internet Connection for 800 pesos a month. As to compare with the yesteryears of snail mails, or hiring messengers; it’s too cheap.
The people you know knowing each other is kinda surprising. In a certain swimming resort which I was invited by my kabarkada, I’ve seen my classmate wearing a bathing suit. They were cousins. The driver in my service ride knew my Dad because they were both alcoholic. Beer-addicts. And unfortunately, two of my ex-girlfriends knew each other and I could sense that they’ve been talking about me from the past weeks.
And right now, we are connected through a fiber-optic cable loaded with a specific Internet speed and identified with a unique IP Address. At last, you and me meeting electronically.

Sino nga ba si Myla Mendoza? Pwede mo bang ipakilala sa akin? Lol… hehe
naks ang ganda ng post.
hehe. small world.
dumaan lang. have a nice sem break =)
Wait, so a clan is a group of people who pick on people ala stalker? Am I the only one who thinks that’s pathetic? hehe. Anyway, texting for the sake of texting is amazingly stupid. That’s just my opinion – no offense to the ummm… clans *chuckle*
akshaly, Benj – I hate texting too. Though I have two sim cards and two cellphones, wala namang load.
Ruther – bakit? Type mo? Haha.
everything and everyone is connected to each other.
lol.
post mo pic! lol.
ahaha…
Hey, me and my GF were also caught up in a web of amazing coincidences.
hmmm…nakasali na ako sa isang text clan and we usually text in those shows like TxtTube. But, I gave it up when I discovered that one of the members of the clan was my school enemy..way back when I was in grade 3…After a lot of years, we were not able to settle our differences. So, I changed my SIM Card, afraid that she would recognize me.
Haha, ang saya naman nung kay Ade.
And Glenda, yours is too – unfortunate. Tsk.
Ruther – Post ko ang pic? Nako, wala akong pic nun. AHAHAH.
I had a clan in texting before, but it was shortlived because we used the TV chatboard, and I was not earning before. Imagin P2.50 per text. I can’t handle that.
It’s surprising how the world becomes smaller these days.
The world is smaller because of the Internet.
Ayun we can meet through the simple ways of fate nga…
i didn’t know there’s a clan thing in text. sounds like too much waste of load. my bill’s up there as it is.
everybody’s connected in a way. ang cool. hahaha. surprising indeed.
teka, 50 pesos for 5 hours of internet? saya naman nun. dito 1 hour = 30 pesos. hahaha.
parang ang sarap pumunta sa probinsya!
clans. haha. am part of it… well its not technically a clan more like of a message boards. announcements are are sent there… so madali lang mapakalat ang isang balita.
Ayus din yung ganun kasi sobrang magkakaconnect talaga yung mga tao in some way.

- aninongkidlat
buti naman pumunta na sila dito.
ohh.. we are connected more than that. I have a tita you lives in Bocaue area, and we visit her now and then (although i have to admit I haven’t eaten there). Maybe I have seen you. But what of these connections? Do they make us more human? Should we be bothered analyzing them? When so many connections are happening, would there be an underlying messaage behind them? I think it’s just life playing, wanting us to stop and wonder.
hahah small world!! ako madalas nakakakita nung mga tao d2 sa net na nakita ko na pala in person or at least connected sakin hehehe!
Yeah, the world is very small. Nakakatuwang isipin. =)
I hate those clans! Not that I hate texting, pero sana naman ilagay sa lugar. Dito sa cable namin merong txtnet, I really hate it. Specially the way they text, it’s very disturbing! Ang dami pang bastos.
you have got to love me. i read the whole post!
and… guess i was rewarded. great post.
it’s a small, small world after all. ^^
small, small world.
haha, ang labo. tama nga kasi, everyone is connected to everyone else in more ways than one. kaya kapag natutuklasan mo kung ano ung connection na yun, amaaaazing. haha, from nokia to smart. (pero globe ako, haha!) koneksyon nga talaga o.
you should watch Six Degrees, a US TV series whose slogan is that in a city, everyone is ‘connected’ by a maximum of 6 people. but oh well, no local cable channel carries this show, hehe. i-torrent mo na lang.. =p
We are currently living in a very small world made even smaller by technology. I get to talk to my relatives living in the other of the world through email and pester my enemy through the phone. And this has made people take time and connection for granted.
i love this post and i hope that my comment will be posted this time… huhu
WOW! At last! nakapagcomment rin! REJOICE!!!
